Myopia, or short-sightedness, is a type of refractive error (prescription) that makes it difficult for patients to see things far away. During childhood, the eye grows naturally, however in myopia, the eye continues to lengthen throughout childhood, and can progress at a rapid rate as the child grows. The impact of this condition however, extends further than just blurry vision.

High prescriptions can often look aesthetically unpleasing in standard lenses. This often drives patients with high levels of myopia to need to spend a lot of money on thinner spectacle lenses, or contact lenses to disguise the need for high prescriptions.
Further to this, certain sports become a problem for myopic patients as the blur without their glasses is too severe.
