This one should be a no-brainer, but there's more to this than you might realise at first. You'll notice we use the word Patients here. To many practice they use the phrase patient and customer interchangeably. We are here to look after your eyes and recommend the best products to keep them healthy.
Our Optometrist Dan is constantly working to better himself from an eye care point of view, he goes above and beyond the mandatory education requirements for an optometrist in the UK. In recent years he has acquired 2 professional certificates, is working towards a qualification which allows him to prescribe medications for the eyes, and is also working towards a Doctorate in Optometry. It's safe to say we care about having up to date knowledge.
A lot of practices fall short in the department. Optometrists spend a long time studying medical terminology during their training and path to communication. Along the way a lot of Optometrists forget how to communicate to people who are not medically minded, and in turn struggle to provide patients with clear understandings about their ocular health. The piece of feedback we receive the most is about how clear we are at explaining things to our patients.
It shouldn't really be a debate at this point, but 20-25 minutes is not long enough for most people to have an eye examination where all of their questions are answered. Our eye examinations can take up to 40 minutes, during which we really take our time to understand your visual needs, and look in depth into the health of your eyes.
A lot of practices buy gadgets, some good, some bad. We make a point of purchasing equipment for our consulting rooms that directly has an impact on patient care. OCT scanning is the biggest revelation to primary care optometry in recent years, and are happy to be able to offer this to all our patients. Our testing chair and phoropter are designed to be accessible options to make the testing experience more comfortable and pleasant for all patients.
All our staff wear the products that we sell. In fact all of them have multiple pairs of glasses because we love the frames that we stock. Ask us for testimonials about the lens options that we offer and we will be able to talk you through all the pros and cons of any choice, because we wear the same lenses and frames we dispense to you.
It should be obvious, but we have been operating for over 20 years. If we have managed to stay going for as long as this, we must be doing something right, and our patients agree!
